Andaman and Nicobar island is one of the most beautiful islands near southeast India, near west Bengal. As a general disclaimer, you can visit these islands all around the year, but as a traveler, I would recommend you to visit in winters, around October (start) to February (end).

1.Cellular Jail, Port Blair

As the name suggests, this place is a central jail, this place holds very historical memories and significance as it used to be the place where British officers used to send prisoners for exile, during the period of their rule. The walls of the jail hold many memories of great freedom fighters and much more.

This jail was built between 1896 to 1906, yes it is that old!! however, the British officers had been using the prison as an exile for prisoners right from the period of the Sepoy mutiny, during the late 1950s.

This place has to be on the list of places to visit in Andaman and Nicobar island, because of its history and construction.

2.Neil Island, Havelock island 

If you are looking for a totally relaxed gateway then this is the best island for you, this island has amazing biodiversity, white sandy beaches, unspoiled and pretty coral reefs, and tropical woodlands. This island is one of the most popular islands in Andaman and Nicobar island.

This island is located approximately 36 km northeast of Port Blair, this island exudes a certain type of laid back charm and you can feel that sometime after setting your foot in. This island is a small island ideal for spending 1-2 days, this island is 5kms so if you want to explore it will take you 2 hours to cover on feet. This island has a very calm and pleasant evening to spend with your family and loved ones.

This island is a must-visit, as it has various places to lie down and dose off as it offers a cool and pleasant atmosphere. Best for your lazy vacation! 

You must visit the place during either Subhash Mela or Island Tourism Festival. The first is a weeklong festival to pay homage to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose held in January and the latter is a 10-day festival, held in the winter season each year.

5.Elephant Beach, Havelock island

Elephant beach is one of the popular tourist attractions amongst all the islands in Andaman and Nicobar island because in just a few minutes after reaching the beach you will fall in love with this place! The water is so crystal clear and the shore is so clean, you will not find any man-made pollution on this beach.

This beach is open for the first half of the day, so must plan your visit accordingly! Elephant Beach is very famous for the bright coral reefs that one can find at a depth that is as shallow as just one meter. Yes, that’s true! That why it is one of the most famous beaches on Andaman and Nicobar island.

7.Barren island Havelock island

The barren island is one of the only confirmed active volcanoes on the Andaman and Nicobar island and entirely South Asia. Lying on a chain of active volcanoes that run from Sumatra in Indonesia to Myanmar, the Barren Island is located about 140 km from the capital town of Port Blair and is a must-visit place during your trip to Andaman and Nicobar island. 

This active volcano is named barren Volcano and was erupted last about 2 years back in the year 2018. Even though this live volcano being live this place is kept very clean and clear for its visitors. There are multiple stacks and resorts where you can have your drink and relax.

9.Mud volcanoes, port Blair 

Andaman and Nicobar islands have many volcanoes spread around the island and a total of 9 volcanos out of 11 volcanos are present in Baratang island, if you are seeing volcanoes for the first time it may see small bubbles! It looks so fascinating, there are very few volcanos in India, and trust me these are worth visiting if you are visiting Andaman and Nicobar island. 

The volcanoes are created when microorganisms release various juices to break down the organic matter underneath the earth’s surface. As a result, organic matter breaks down and releases various gases. These gases then rise to the surface and create small craters of bubbling mud, called mud volcanoes.

The bubbles popping out go the holes seem so satisfying! I can’t explain it in words!

If you want to experience the fascination of mother Earth then this is the place for you! These Limestone caves are the deepest man found caves on the earth which are fully natural and were found millions of years back! You will be awestruck when you experience it! These limestone caves are must visit if you are planning to visit Andaman and Nicobar island!  

These Limestone caves were primarily made with a natural phenomenon under the earth’s surface. Starting with the compression of deposits due to overhead pressure, there was a heterogeneous combination of marine deposits and algae.

These caves are still changing with time as the water level is changing, it’s texture and character is also changing, you should surely visit these limestone caves.
